Vincent Kompany said discussions between Bayern and Harry Kane over a new contract are “going well”. The coach nevertheless cautioned against expecting an immediate announcement: “The negotiations are going well, but there is nothing that can be announced at the moment.” The two sides are said to be moving closer to an agreement, but no announcement has been confirmed.

Kane, 33, is in the final season of his current contract and has consistently expressed his desire to remain at the club. Since moving from Tottenham in 2023, he has scored 154 goals in 156 matches for Bayern. He is also described as the leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or, which is due to be announced later this month.

Kompany was asked about the contract situation ahead of Bayern’s next match against Leipzig, scheduled for Saturday. Bayern are currently two points off the top of the league after drawing two of their first five matches. Leipzig, meanwhile, are also two points behind Bayern in the standings.

On the upcoming match, Kompany said: “We want to attack. We are playing at home and we have great ambitions.” He also pointed to Leipzig’s confidence and changes that, in his view, have helped the team. Bayern, he added, have attempted 50 shots across their last two matches and can still improve by getting some details right.
