Spain’s Ander Herrera believes Manchester City should be stripped of its Premier League titles following the club’s conviction in a case involving financial infractions. The former Manchester United player also challenged the legitimacy of the English club’s successes.
In comments reported by the programme “Rio Meets”, Herrera said: “I don’t know if we deserved (at Manchester United) to win the title, but what is certain is that they don’t deserve to win it.”
He then called on the Premier League to act to protect its credibility: “If we want to respect the Premier League, and if the League wants to preserve its status and the respect it enjoys around the world, it must take action. It cannot turn a blind eye to this case.”
The Spanish player also described how a member of Manchester City’s squad might react. “If I were a Manchester City player, I would be angry with the owners and the board, because they have called into question everything I have contributed over the last few years. Do you understand what I mean?” he said.
