“Carvajal has won everything, and his humility and simplicity have made an impression; everyone is fond of him,” José Bordalás said after Getafe drew with Rayo Vallecano. The coach praised Dani Carvajal’s character after his debut for the team and stressed how quickly the defender had settled into the group.

Getafe earned the draw despite Djené’s first-half dismissal. Bordalás said his players had made a major effort to stay in the game, while acknowledging that they were not entirely satisfied with the result. “The team never gave up,” he said, describing the match as another exercise in survival. He also urged his side to address what he considers an excessive number of dismissals.

The coach also backed Carvajal, praising his professionalism and leadership. He said he was pleased to have the defender in the squad and believed Carvajal would contribute a great deal over the course of the season. Despite the player’s experience and achievements, Bordalás added, his humility had quickly won him the affection of his new teammates.

The match finished 1-1. Explaining Getafe’s difficulties, Bordalás pointed to first-half turnovers that benefited Rayo, including the counterattack that followed one of them and led to the dismissal. He said his side had tried to stay more compact and restrict the available space, while calling for them to make better use of their strengths out wide and in the air.

Bordalás also challenged the number of cards shown in Spain. He cited two early bookings for Getafe, one to Femenía in the first minute and another to Djené for handball. “Too many cards are being shown,” he said, arguing that a comparison with the Premier League reflected poorly on Spain.

The coach also spoke about the demands on his squad amid injuries and a congested run of fixtures. Getafe had come from a match played on Thursday and a long journey, he said, with some players having featured again. At the start of his press conference, he had also sent support to the people of Valencia and the families of those who died: “They are my people, and I know they are suffering a lot.”
