Tronchetti Provera sees Marotta as central to Inter’s future

In Marco Tronchetti Provera’s view, Beppe Marotta, Inter’s chief executive, would provide the stability needed for any prospective investment as speculation continues over interest from a Qatari group. Amid reports of interest from a Qatari group, he described the executive as a source of stability for the club’s future and also voiced his support for coach Cristian Chivu.

The Pirelli executive chairman spoke on La Politica nel Pallone, on Rai Gr Parlamento. He did not confirm that a deal was being pursued. Instead, he stressed the importance of keeping experienced leadership if new investors were to become involved.

“The club is in good hands with Beppe Marotta. Anyone who wants to invest in Inter needs someone of his calibre and experience alongside them. Marotta is a guarantee for the future,” Tronchetti Provera said. He also called Chivu a great coach and backed his ability to improve the team.

Beyond the ownership talk, Tronchetti Provera discussed Inter’s play and the task facing their coach. He sees an attack-minded side, but believes defensive progress is needed to succeed in Europe. “This Inter side plays on the front foot. There are things to put right defensively, but Chivu will do that. To win in Europe, you also need a very strong defence,” he said.

He rejected the idea that Inter’s European campaign was already beyond repair. In his view, the early part of a season is also a chance to identify weaknesses and make adjustments. “Inter still have a chance to do well in the Champions League. Nothing is compromised. The start of the season brought some necessary fine-tuning to light, and that is positive. Chivu will respond,” he added.

Tronchetti Provera believes Inter can meet the challenge if the team continues to develop under Chivu. He also addressed Juventus and Antonio Conte: “Inter have a great coach. If Juventus become competitive again with Conte, we will beat them with Conte.” He said Juventus had good players but had not managed to turn them into a team.
