Borussia Dortmund beat Sabah 2-1 in the Champions League on 20 October 2026. A Guirassy brace made the difference in a contest the German side had to fight hard to see through.
Dortmund took the initiative early and showed its attacking edge, with Guirassy at the heart of its forward play. But the lead was followed by a less controlled spell: Dortmund began to leave openings and lose its defensive shape. The win therefore came in a match that also demanded substantial work without the ball.
Sabah, meanwhile, did not give up after falling behind. The side showed courage, finished the match in Dortmund’s half and searched for an equaliser. It could not find one, but its pressure made for a tense closing period. Dortmund’s victory was the result of a collective effort, rather than a trouble-free evening.
The result comes during a strong start to Dortmund’s Bundesliga campaign. The club is second in the table with 14 points after six matches. It remains unbeaten in the league, with four wins and two draws, and has scored 11 goals while conceding four. In its last five Bundesliga matches, Dortmund has recorded three wins and two draws.
Its home and away figures are also even in terms of unbeaten matches: three in each setting, with two wins and a draw. At home, Dortmund has scored seven goals and conceded two; away, it has scored four and conceded two. Its Bundesliga average is 1.83 goals scored and 0.67 conceded per match. Those league figures offer a measure of Dortmund’s form, while the Sabah match showed that the side must also withstand pressure when an opponent pushes late on.
