Palma de Mallorca: man arrested after allegedly threatening neighbour with an axe

A man was arrested on Sunday in Palma de Mallorca, suspected of making threats after allegedly threatening a neighbour with an axe and telling him, among other things: “I’m going to cut your head off.” The incident stemmed from a dispute over the volume of music.

On Sunday afternoon, police services received a call to 091 reporting that a person carrying an axe was chasing another person in the street. At the scene, officers spoke to those involved and established that the dispute had begun over music coming from a home. The National Police arrested a man of Spanish origin, suspected of following another man into the entrance of his building before intimidating him with the weapon.

The victim, who allegedly had been playing music at a high volume, reportedly went downstairs to resolve the problem and speak with his neighbour, before heading back towards the entrance to his building. Four men allegedly then followed him to the entrance. He reportedly failed to close the door before the four individuals got inside. It was then that one of them allegedly produced an axe and made the threats. The victim also told officers that he had been struck several times in the face by one of the individuals, although he initially did not consider medical assistance necessary.

According to the account given to officers, one of the neighbours had previously gone outside to complain about the high volume. The victim said he intended to file a complaint. Officers later located the four men inside a home. One of them matched the description provided by the victim and a witness of the individual who allegedly carried the axe and made the threats; he was therefore arrested on suspicion of making threats.
