“I do not have Mourinho’s attitude to life and sport.” Luis de la Fuente drew that distinction from José Mourinho during a lengthy interview with El Larguero, after the confirmation of his extension as La Roja coach through Euro 2032.
The Spain coach was asked about Atlético de Madrid’s derby and José Mourinho’s complaints about refereeing. He said he does not believe a club can be helped or harmed by an imposed decision.
“If I believed that, in that manipulation, it would be better for me to go home,” he said. Luis de la Fuente also urged those advancing that view to provide evidence.
“I have lost at times, often in fact, and I have also won. I have never thought there was a hand directing anything,” he explained. In his view, analysis should lead to trying to do better next time in order to avoid an unfavourable outcome, while continuing to improve when the outcome has been favourable.
