Bellerín renewal becomes an unexpected task for Betis and Fajardo

Héctor Bellerín’s renewal has emerged as an unexpected task for Manu Fajardo and Betis. In the coming months, the sporting department had appeared set mainly to deal with the situations of Marc Bartra, under contract until 30 June 2027, and Diego Conde, who is on loan until the end of the season. But the full-back’s contract does not end in 2028, contrary to what was announced, and expires next summer.

Bellerín had already played for Betis on loan from Arsenal during the 2021-22 season at the Benito Villamarín. He then played for Barcelona and Sporting Portugal before returning to the green-and-white club in the summer of 2023.

Upon his return, Betis officially announced a five-season deal running until 30 June 2028. However, the agreement ultimately signed is only for four years, as confirmed by official club sources. Bellerín is therefore already in his final contract season with Betis.

Having overcome a significant injury that had held him back a few years ago, the Catalan defender has found the continuity needed to establish himself at right-back in Pellegrini’s side. He has also become one of the dressing-room leaders, as part of the captains’ group, and one of the players most connected to the supporters, matching the club’s green-and-white values and its environmental and social commitment.

Betis are said to be highly satisfied with his performances on the pitch, his influence within the group and his involvement in every initiative proposed by the club. This season, with Ruibal injured, Bellerín has featured in every official match for Pellegrini’s team: seven in La Liga and one in the Champions League. He has started six of them, already passed 600 minutes of playing time and, at 31, is enjoying a second youth with a very high level of performance.

A renewal therefore appears to be a highly likely prospect in the near future for Fajardo and his team. Bellerín has also found his place at Betis and in Seville, where he is fully integrated. If nothing unusual happens, his spell should continue beyond next summer, when his current contract ends. Barring a surprise, he should continue playing at La Cartuja, while also hoping to return to the Villamarín.
