Jordi Fernández said: “We don’t see passports, we see great players.”
The Brooklyn Nets coach said he was “extremely excited” ahead of the new NBA season and identified competition for playing time as one of the challenges for a group combining youth and experience.
The former Canada coach said he felt everyone in the squad could play, while declining to predict the makeup of his rotation.
“If you’re that good consistently, don’t worry, I’ll see it,” he said. He added that his job is to challenge every player to keep improving.
Fernández also argued that collective success should come before individual goals: “If we focus on the team’s success, everything else will be fine.”
He also advocated gradual progress: “You want to improve by 1%. Not by five or ten, but through small gains, always moving forward.”
He added: “We don’t see passports on our team. We see great players with the possibility to develop.”
