José Antonio Caro calls for unity and calm

“I know it is difficult for us to ask for it publicly, but we have to stay united,” José Antonio Caro said.

After the last two negative results against Burgos (1-2) and Éibar (3-2), the goalkeeper called for “calm” and “emotional stability”. He also acknowledged that the relationship with the stands had become “a little cold” in recent matches at the Estadio de Gran Canaria.

Caro said there was no need for alarm, while calling on his team to tighten up. He said he understood the demands associated with the shirt, but hoped that any whistles would come at the end of matches rather than during the 90 minutes.

The player admitted that his team were conceding a lot to opponents defensively, while stressing that they were also scoring plenty of goals. He added that, at the same stage last season, they had only one more point.

Looking back at last Sunday’s match in Eibar, Caro felt that his team had not entered the game with sufficient focus. Ahead of the next meeting with Real Valladolid, he said they needed to become stronger at home in order to “fight for higher objectives”.

He also described the opponent as a “great rival” that “knows very well what it is playing for”.
