FootballEspanyol lose 0-1 to Ipswich in behind-closed-doors friendly
A week before their match against Málaga, Espanyol were beaten in a training game against Ipswich. Andoni Gorosabel made his first appearance in the club’s colours.

“If they want to play for Real, they will have to face this kind of player,” Jon Ansotegi said. Ahead of Sanse’s match against Granada, the coach described the fixture as an opportunity to measure his players’ progress against an experienced opponent.
Sanse are looking to move on after a setback. Before the demanding match, Ansotegi spoke to the media about the contrasting profiles of the two teams. Having criticised his players for giving in to provocation in the previous match, he is now focusing on their development on the pitch.
The coach acknowledged Granada’s experience, as well as that of its coach, but believes his side can offset that disadvantage with enthusiasm and tempo. “It is clear that in that respect they will be better than us. We have to try to make sure that does not show. What must prevail is enthusiasm and tempo,” he said, also stressing the need to keep sight of what matters.
Ansotegi also wants to see his players perform with courage and freedom. “We have to try to play bravely and freely. The players must also think only about football and express themselves through it,” he said.
For him, the challenge is about more than the immediate result: it should allow the young players to test themselves against seasoned opponents. He singled out Arnaiz, whom he considers to have the level for the top division, and sees the match as a chance to assess where his team stands against opponents who demand a high tempo. “If we want our players to play for Real’s first team, they will have to face this kind of player,” he concluded.
