“We have to dig in and start from zero every day,” Hay said. The phrase captures Ferran Costa’s message ahead of Andorra’s visit to Nova Creu Alta: the CE Sabadell coach says what the team has achieved so far “counts for nothing”, because “the only thing that matters is what happens when the referee blows the whistle to start the match”.
The coach says he likes the stability and identity his side shows, but believes it needs to improve “absolutely everywhere”. He describes that mindset as part of the team’s essence: “Perfectionism is rubbish, but dissatisfaction is important.” He sees it as the force that drives the work and sets the group’s direction.
Costa will face his former team, but says it is “just another match” for him. He also rejects the word “war”, used by his counterpart Carles Manso: “I don’t think the word war fits a football match. There will be intensity, and we’ll go for every ball as if it were the last because that’s our essence, but nothing beyond that.”
On the 1-1 draw against Celta Fortuna in Vigo, Costa acknowledged that his team had lacked technical sharpness and performed below the level of its recent matches. He nevertheless praised its ability to recover after a first-half mistake that cost a goal. Sabadell equalised and, he said, had almost three times as many shots as its opponent; it remains “competitive and difficult to beat”.
