Alarm bells are ringing over Júnior Firpo after the Real Betis player left the match between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, in the Concacaf Nations League, injured after just 10 minutes. Physical discomfort forced him off, raising fresh concern for his club during the international break.
The setback comes after Firpo suffered several muscular problems last season that limited his involvement. Betis will have to wait for medical tests and an assessment by the Dominican national team’s medical staff to find out whether the injury is serious. The Dominican Republic ultimately lost 1-4 to Haiti.
The situation is drawing particular attention in Heliópolis because Fran García is also away with his national team, Spain. He was called up by Luis de la Fuente to replace the injured Alejandro Grimaldo. For Betis, the extent of Firpo’s problem remains something to monitor, with another club player also involved in national-team duty.
