Rotterdam P2: top four pairs reach the women’s semi-finals

The women’s semi-finals at Rotterdam P2 promise two major match-ups: the four highest-ranked pairs came through the quarter-finals and will meet at Ahoy to compete for places in the final. All four duos at the top of the FIP ranking delivered in the knockout round.

World number ones Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea will meet Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero, the reigning Paris Major champions. In the other semi-final, Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo take on Paula Josemaría and Bea González. The latter pair were the only seeded team required to play a third set in the quarter-finals.

Claudia Jensen and Claudia Escacena, meanwhile, were beaten in the quarter-finals, 6-3, 7-5. The head-to-head record between Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo and their opponents is closely balanced, although Claudia and Martina have won each of their encounters.

Ari Sánchez and Andrea Ustero come into the match after claiming a title at Pista Philippe Chatrier two weeks ago. Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, meanwhile, produced a commanding performance to reach the last four. The women’s semi-finals will open Saturday’s programme at Ahoy. The stakes extend beyond a place in the final: the tournament also matters for the Race and the leading positions on the Premier Padel circuit.
