Yáñez gives Castilla a dramatic derby win

Yáñez settled a dramatic derby in Castilla’s favour against Atlético Madrileño. His superb goal ended the team’s struggles after it had conceded twice in unfortunate fashion: Mario Rivas scored an own goal just before half-time, then Koke equalised after Mestre saved David García’s penalty. Castillo’s effort against the crossbar in the 101st minute then denied Atlético Madrileño one last chance to draw level.

The match had already produced several chances. Cubo almost caught Mestre out with a backheel. Later, a long-range effort from Antal was poorly dealt with by Mario Rivas and ended up in the net.

Yáñez ultimately swung the game with a powerful left-footed shot, nearly twenty minutes from the end. The derby win gives Castilla renewed momentum and ends a poor run of results. López de Lerma’s side also welcomed Cestero back, whose contribution strengthened the midfield, while Thiago Pitarch made the difference. Julián López de Lerma is Castilla’s coach.
