James Wade and Nathan Aspinall delivered notable performances ahead of their World Grand Prix semi-finals, scheduled for Saturday night. Their displays are likely to have caught the attention of their upcoming opponents, Sky Sports reported.
Wayne Mardle described Wade’s performance as “one to remember”, praising a display that was devastating from start to finish and world class. John Part, a three-time world champion, also praised James Wade’s game and said he looked like a winner. Part pointed in particular to Wade’s ability to take advantage when his opponent struggled early in the match.
Wade will face Luke Humphries in the semi-final. Humphries said he was disappointed with his game, despite his 3-0 quarter-final win over Neils Zonneveld. He felt he had been the second-best player over the first two sets, but had managed to get through. “Hopefully tomorrow night is a lot better, because if it isn’t I won’t be here on Sunday,” he said. He also described Wade as a tough opponent.
In the other semi-final, Aspinall will play Price. In their previous semi-final, in 2022, Aspinall beat Price before finishing runner-up to Michael van Gerwen. Aspinall’s most recent major title came at the World Matchplay in 2023. “I feel like I can win this tournament, and I feel like I’m ready to win another major again,” he said. Aspinall also said he had felt relaxed and was very pleased with his performance, which he called one of the best of his career on stage.
