Pablo Marín is back on the pitch under Matarazzo, having played his first minutes of the 2026-27 season against Athletic de Bilbao in the Euskal Herria Txapela final. Until recently, injuries had kept him from working under Pellegrino Matarazzo. The midfielder suffered two consecutive injuries during pre-season, followed by a muscular recurrence that ruled him out at the start of the campaign.
His return makes him an option in several positions again. Last April, Marín scored the penalty that won the Copa final for Real. Last season, he had already been used in different roles. Against Athletic, he featured on the right side of the attack: one move saw him reach the byline and deliver a cross to the far post, while in another Rego took the ball away just as Marín was about to shoot from the penalty spot.
His comeback had begun before that match. On 17 September, in the opening Europa League fixture against Bournemouth, he was named in the squad but did not play. The final against Athletic therefore gave him a chance to get game time again after that spell on the sidelines.
