“Ten Hag was a real piece of shit”: speaking on Charla Podcast, Brazilian midfielder Fred delivered a blunt verdict on his former coach. Now 33 and playing for Atlético Mineiro, he also acknowledged Ten Hag’s tactical strengths while criticizing the way he handled the group.
“Tactically, Ten Hag was very good, but with the group he was a piece of shit,” Fred said. He added that the coach “argued with everyone,” naming Cristiano, Casemiro and Rashford. Fred also said that Ten Hag did not play him and that the situation was sometimes stressful.
His criticism also focused on how players were treated. “Only his Dutch players played. He was a coach who created little groups. But tactically, he’s one of the best I’ve worked with,” Fred continued.
He also revisited the tensions between Ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo. In Fred’s account, Ten Hag wanted the team to run, while Ronaldo was already older. The coach then left him out of the starting line-up, leading to a disagreement. Fred also described an interview in which Ronaldo strongly criticized the club: before a match, Ten Hag had reportedly said Ronaldo would leave; after the game, once the plane had landed, the club’s communications staff discovered the interview when they turned off airplane mode on their phone.
