Alexia Putellas made her mark on London City Lionesses’ 6-1 win over Tottenham at Brisbane Road on Sunday, in the fifth round of the Women's Super League. The former Barça captain scored her first brace in England and, as in the previous round, got her team on the scoresheet first.
The Tottenham performance extended the Spanish midfielder’s scoring run. Last week, she had netted her first goal for her new club, opening the scoring against Brighton in a 2-0 victory. This time, London City built a commanding lead early on: Kadidiatou Diani extended it midway through the first half, set up by Lucía Corrales. Later, a first-time left-footed finish inside the area, assisted by Van de Donk, made it 0-3 before the break. Pelova pulled one back for Tottenham, but London City continued to press forward and found further goals.
The result marked London City’s third consecutive league victory and its fifth straight win across competitions, including two League Cup successes. The London side has 12 points from five rounds and sits second, one behind Chelsea. The standings could still change on Sunday, with Manchester City due to face Arsenal at 17:00.
