Louzán condemns violent acts in Tenerife

Rafael Louzán condemned violent acts in Tenerife before a Copa del Rey preliminary-round fixture. “I want to condemn yesterday’s acts of vandalism in the strongest terms. I hope they do not happen again, because the Copa del Rey is a celebration and must not be tarnished by such acts in Tenerife,” he said.

The president of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol was speaking on Monday, ahead of the competition’s first-round draw. The incidents came before the second leg between Atlético Güimar and Sporting Hortaleza, which could not get underway. Local supporters made threats and subjected visiting supporters to verbal and physical assaults, according to the account of the incident.

Louzán linked his condemnation to the celebratory spirit he wants to see preserved around the cup. His appeal also looked ahead: he hopes such acts will not happen again.
