“Yes, and I also got angry with my great-great-aunt,” Kylian Mbappé replied ironically to a report from Radio MARCA. On Monday, the forward reacted on social media to comments aired on La Tribu, the programme hosted by Raúl Varela, about his conduct in the latest Madrid derby. He responded directly to a radio post reproducing the on-air remarks, using sarcasm to reject that version of events.
In another message, Mbappé wrote: “😂😂😂... yes, yes, and I also got mixed up with my great-great-aunt.” Javier Tintó’s commentary linked the forward’s behaviour on the pitch to supposed frustration with Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane over the Ballon d’Or.
Tintó said Mbappé had allegedly asked the club, during derby week, to support his bid for the award. “The club doesn’t give in,” he explained, before connecting that refusal to the Frenchman’s conduct during the match. “It’s not normal to be down to ten and walk around the pitch,” he said, among other remarks. He also claimed Mbappé had allegedly asked Zidane to publicly back his candidacy, adding: “Apparently, he asks Zidane for that effort too.”
The controversy stemmed from Tintó’s comments on Radio MARCA. By choosing sarcasm, Mbappé brought renewed attention to an account that tied his derby behaviour to the club’s failure to campaign for his Ballon d’Or bid.
