Carl Starfelt expected to miss around six weeks for Celta

Carl Starfelt is expected to be sidelined for around a month and a half, Celta announced. The 31-year-old defender is a regular starter for Claudio Giráldez when available, but he has encountered further physical problems in 2026.

The injury occurred during the international break, when Starfelt played three matches for Sweden. He left his national team’s camp with discomfort at the back of his right leg and was assessed after returning to Vigo. He had been substituted in the 31st minute against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Imaging showed a tear in the musculotendinous area of the semimembranosus muscle, with involvement of the proximal tendon in his right thigh. Celta’s medical statement said Starfelt was beginning treatment and put his estimated absence at « around six weeks ».

The latest spell on the sidelines affects a defender Giráldez regularly selects whenever he is available. The club’s estimate points to a return in roughly a month and a half, but does not present that timeframe as a confirmed date.
