La Laguna Tenerife fall to London Lions on first European away trip

La Laguna Tenerife were beaten 89-77 by London Lions on their first European away trip of the season. The London side grew into the contest, while Tenerife could not regain the lead.

La Laguna Tenerife struggled in particular to contain the opposition’s inside game, which repeatedly caused problems. Jaka Lakovic’s team relied on Giorgi Shermadini as its main offensive option but lacked accuracy from long range. Kyle Guy scored nine points, making one of his nine attempts from three-point range. Marcelinho Huertas had six assists and scored two points.

The gap also widened at the free-throw line: Tenerife made 11 of 21, compared with London’s 28 of 36. The Lions had their own difficulties from beyond the arc, making seven of 25 three-pointers, but found answers near the basket and converted their free throws.

This was Tenerife’s first European defeat of the season. The 89-77 result underlined the challenges the team faced away from home, as its first European road outing ended without a way to contain the opposition inside or enough accuracy from distance.
