At the Monumental, the captain shared an emotional moment with his children as the Argentine anthem rang out.

“You are the greatest”: Ronaldinho directed those words to Messi in a message posted on social media, as the Argentine said goodbye to the Argentina national team. The Brazilian also looked back on their shared history at Barça, where they were teammates during Messi’s early years.
Ronaldinho spoke warmly of having been part of his former teammate’s journey from the beginning. “What a pleasure and what a joy to have been part of your story from the first day, brother. You made us smile and enjoy football so much. Your name is written into the history of your country and the whole world…” he wrote. He also recalled the dream they fulfilled by becoming world champions with their respective national teams.
The Brazilian said he understood Messi’s decision and highlighted the importance of family in choices of this kind. “You gave everything for your team and your country… I understand you perfectly, and I know that everything connected with family makes us reconsider things. Enjoy life, brother. I wish you all the best, today and always,” he concluded.
