Sunderland-linked Bruno Cabral has a €100m release clause. The young forward attracted attention at the 2025 Messi Cup in Miami, where he starred for River. Sunderland had previously shown interest, and Cabral has now agreed his first professional contract with a clause of the same value.
He scored seven goals in five matches as his team won the tournament. He also finished as its leading scorer and most valuable player. Cabral had already been putting up impressive numbers at youth level before his performances in Miami. His showing at the Messi Cup brought him onto the radar of clubs outside Argentina.
That interest included enquiries from Sunderland, while Bundesliga clubs also took notice after a prolific 2025. River has secured the forward’s future with an agreement running until December 2028. Cabral turned 16 on August 16, allowing the contract to be formalised. The high clause reflects River’s desire to protect him from an early move to Europe and gives the club greater control over the timing of any potential transfer.
Cabral scored 26 goals in 2024. In 2025, he added 34 in 28 appearances for River, while also scoring regularly for Argentina’s Under-15 side. Sunderland’s interest dates back to December, when the club was among those reported to have made enquiries about the forward. That interest could become more significant if Cabral continues to develop rapidly.
