Marcha Hermanos Herrada sets participation record with more than 900 entrants

Marcha Hermanos Herrada set a new participation record, with more than 900 people registered. Eden Hazard took part in the fourth edition, which also marked the end of Jesús Herrada’s professional career: he rode his final kilometres in the peloton alongside his brothers Fernando and José Herrada.

The peloton showed its affection for Jesús Herrada throughout the day, as participants rode through the landscapes of the Serranía de Cuenca. The route tested their endurance over 120 kilometres, with 1,900 metres of positive elevation gain and three mountain passes.

Eden Hazard, a former international footballer and former Real Madrid player, was one of the day’s notable surprises. Rubén Plaza was also there. A sporting director at NSN Cycling Team and a former teammate of the Herrada brothers at Movistar Team, he won a stage of the Tour de France and La Vuelta during his career. Fans could also meet him, Héctor Carretero and Isaac Cantón, who recently retired from professional cycling, during race-number collection and the official presentation.

The previous Friday, Marcha Popular by Amiab had offered an initiative for younger children, focused on inclusion and introducing new generations to cycling. The edition ended in the Serranía de Cuenca, bringing together sport, fans and prominent figures from cycling, as Jesús Herrada completed his final kilometres as a professional surrounded by his brothers.
