Ahead of the major meeting with Zamalek, Hussein Ammouta recorded his biggest victory with Al Ahly. His side beat Asyut Petroleum 5-0 on Wednesday at Al Salam Stadium in the opening round of the Egypt Capital Cup 2026-2027 group stage.
It was also the match in which Al Ahly scored the most goals under the Moroccan coach. Earlier, on the opening matchday, the club had beaten Al Sharqia-ENPPI 3-2. Since the start of the current season, Ammouta has led Al Ahly in six matches: five in the Egyptian Premier League and one in the Egypt Capital Cup. The team has won five and drawn once, against Al Mokawloon Al Arab on the fourth matchday of the Premier League.
Al Ahly’s next match is against traditional rivals Zamalek next Sunday at Cairo International Stadium. The club goes into it with 13 points from five matches, in third place and level with Zamalek on goal difference. They are two points behind leaders Pyramids, who have 15.
Derby preparations will begin on Thursday at El Tetsh Stadium, at the club’s Gezira branch. Al Ahly will then enter a closed training camp two days before the match.
