Avenir de Kasserine is challenging the Professional Football League’s decision to award it a forfeit defeat. The club said it would appeal after a complaint from Qawafel Gafsa over Bilal Fekhraoui’s participation in the match between the teams, despite a sanction having been imposed on him.

Avenir’s management committee said it had decided to refer the matter to the competent authorities. The appeal challenges a decision based on the player’s disciplinary status in the match in question.

The case dates back to the promotion play-off between Club sportif de Hammam-Lif and Avenir de Kasserine at the end of the previous season. Mohamed Amine Ben Messaoud, then a former Avenir player, received a red card in that match. However, the match sheet and the official report attributed the sending-off to Bilal Fekhraoui.

The committee also called on the club’s supporters to rally behind the team, saying it would “continue to defend the association’s rights firmly.”

The challenge comes as Avenir had emerged as a contender for promotion to the Professional Ligue 1, as in previous seasons. The club had opened its campaign with two consecutive wins before the League’s decision was announced on Wednesday.
