Oboavwoduo says joining Juventus after Manchester City was an easy decision. The forward, born in 2006, recently made his Serie A debut after joining the club’s Next Gen team in February from Manchester City.
In an interview with Juventus’ official channels, he pointed to the club’s standing and the plan it presented to him. “Obviously Juventus is the biggest team in Italy and has a great history,” he said. The club’s interest and its vision for how he could fit into the system also mattered. “When they called me and were seriously interested in bringing me here, it was not a difficult decision to make, especially because of how they saw me fitting into the system and what the plan for me could be if I worked hard and played well,” he explained.
Choosing the club, however, was not the biggest challenge of this new chapter. After spending his formative years at Manchester City, Oboavwoduo says leaving his family and adapting to a new country proved more difficult. Language was one of the main obstacles because he did not speak Italian. “It was also the first time I had moved away from my family,” he said. Living alone brought everyday tasks he had not previously needed to handle, from buying groceries to getting a television. “The simple things in life that you do not do until you live alone,” he added.
He described the distance from his family in Manchester as the hardest part. By contrast, joining Juventus brought “a huge sense of joy and pride” for him and his family, he said.
His experience with Juventus Next Gen also helps explain the appeal of the pathway. Oboavwoduo values playing against experienced professionals each week rather than regularly facing reserve teams. “The Next Gen project is excellent because you play against adults every week, whereas in England you play second team against second team,” he said. Those league matches help him develop and prepare for future challenges, in his view.
He also praised his relationship with coach Massimo Brambilla and the staff, describing it as honest. They expect a lot from him, he said, while helping him identify areas to improve. He believes progressing through Juventus Next Gen could help him build his future at the club.
