With Sweden leading 2-1, Sabri Lamouchi felt his team could still get back into the match. The coach said he held on to that belief despite the deficit, until the team conceded a third goal following an individual error.
Lamouchi also described the heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the opening group-stage match as the end of his time in charge: he was dismissed immediately after the game.
Speaking about his spell at the helm, he said he had taken on the role convinced he could bring the necessary change, but felt he had not been given enough time to put his ideas into practice. He also said the team « had lost its way » in the decisive moments, even though it could still have fought back before the situation became more difficult.
The former coach referred to difficulties within the group, where not everyone shared the same outlook, making his task harder. Despite the difficult ending, he said the experience would remain an important part of his career and that from the outset he had believed he could change things and achieve better results with the Eagles of Carthage.
