“Roberto is in a state of grace: everything he touches turns into a goal.” The remark puts the forward in the spotlight ahead of Málaga’s next fixture, scheduled for Friday against RCD Espanyol at La Rosaleda in the eighth round of LaLiga EA Sports. Juan Francisco Funes, Málaga’s coach, warned that his side would face an energetic opponent strong in aerial duels and capable of “making things very difficult for us.”

Funes also highlighted the threat from crosses and the forward runs of Bryan Zaragoza and Cala. In his view, RCD Espanyol can gain an advantage from wide areas and make the most of its opportunities. “They don’t need to create much to dominate the penalty area,” he said. The coach also noted the team’s command of the inside channels and Roberto’s growing prominence, adding that the side had enjoyed a spectacular first half of the championship last year.

Funes said the fixture would be a special one for Roberto. He raised the possibility of changing Málaga’s approach, explaining that opponents can force the team into different situations. Málaga would like to win the ball higher up the pitch and reach the area before the opposition can get organised.

After a break of almost three weeks, Málaga has worked on adjustments. “We’ll see what we can change from within. It’s a reality we have to accept. The break gives us time to look at those details,” Funes said. He added that the team had used the pause to prepare and was eager for the match against RCD Espanyol.
