Bringing Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi onto the same team is being described as a very real possibility. Carlos Tévez is working to organise a match at La Bombonera towards the end of the year, with several of his former teammates. He played 47 matches with Messi for Argentina and 80 with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.
The proposed event would take place on 20 December, with the two stars on the same side. Tévez appears to have revived the plan for the end of 2026 and reportedly has the green light from Juan Román Riquelme. He wants to create a rare image that could endure in people’s memories. “We’ll bring them together,” he said of Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.
Tévez also outlined a dream team: “Goalkeepers, Buffon and Van der Sar; defenders Ferdinand, Vidic, Chiellini, Bonucci; midfielders Pirlo, Scholes, Riquelme…” Those present called the idea “the best friendly in history”.
The project also has a personal dimension for Tévez. In 2022, the former Argentine footballer retired without getting the farewell match he had hoped for at La Bombonera. If the proposed reunion with several former teammates comes together, it could therefore carry particular meaning for him.
