The Republic Championship beach wrestling event brought 388 men and women to Ras El-Bar. Hossam Abu Salem, undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, attended the competition as a representative of the governor of Damietta.
The Wrestling Federation, chaired by Said Salah, announced that the participants represented 53 organisations. The championship drew sports bodies from a range of backgrounds, reflecting interest in the discipline and a desire to provide athletes with more opportunities to compete.
Beyond the event itself, the competition is intended to promote beach wrestling across the republic’s governorates. It is also designed to identify the most promising competitors and prepare and qualify them for upcoming championships. That effort is part of the Federation’s plan to expand participation and discover emerging talent.
Federation officials followed the performances and assessed the level of the prospects. Their observations are intended to help identify athletes who could represent the national teams in the coming period. The competition is also meant to give participants experience and help improve their technical level ahead of local and international events. More broadly, the Federation is relying on local championships open to different age groups to develop the discipline and train a new generation of champions.
