Toni Kroos has taken a first step towards a coaching career, informing the RFEF of his interest in taking a course for coaches of professional footballers next season. On completion, he would obtain the ‘A’ coaching licence, which would allow him to coach any team at any level.
The move comes two years after he retired from playing, having won the Champions League with Real Madrid. The return being discussed would therefore be as a prospective coach, not as a player.
Real Madrid is said to be monitoring the German’s next moves. Florentino could approach him again, this time to take charge from the dugout. That remains a possibility, rather than an announced appointment.
Since hanging up his boots, Kroos has devoted himself exclusively to his football academy, where he seeks to pass on his understanding of the game to younger players. Professional coaching training would mark a new step in applying that knowledge at another level of football.
