RB Leipzig could consider bringing Julian Nagelsmann back if Martín Demichelis fails to improve the team’s results. The possibility remains conditional: there have been no concrete discussions about a reunion, and Demichelis is not currently regarded as being close to losing his job.
The slow start to the season has nevertheless prompted questions. Demichelis was appointed ahead of the current season, but Leipzig have begun their Bundesliga campaign sluggishly. The club wants a clear improvement in performances and results before making a decision about the coach’s future. The team’s displays under Demichelis over the coming weeks will therefore matter to what happens next.
Nagelsmann is reportedly still highly regarded within the Leipzig organisation. Red Bull chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff is among those said to admire the former coach. Nagelsmann’s familiarity with Leipzig and his standing across the Red Bull organisation could make him an appealing candidate if the club begins looking for a replacement. His name is therefore an option to watch, not an active project.
Nagelsmann has also managed Hoffenheim and reportedly left his Germany role after a disappointing World Cup campaign. Jürgen Klopp was subsequently appointed to lead the national team. Any return for Nagelsmann will depend on Leipzig’s performances in the weeks ahead: the club will need to show progress to strengthen Demichelis’s position and prevent speculation about a change in the dugout from gathering pace.
