Kely González, Inter Miami’s coach, believes Argentina will deeply miss Lionel Messi after his international retirement. He also urged supporters to enjoy having the star at the American club while he is still wearing its colours.
The Inter Miami coach stressed the importance of appreciating the present: “He will be missed in this shirt, of course, but today he is here with us, and we have to enjoy having him with us now. He will miss it too, from the day he retires until the last day of his life.” He also spoke of Messi’s attachment to the national-team shirt and the legacy he built there, while noting that supporters will no longer see him wearing it after his departure. “Now he is ours, so I have to enjoy it,” he added.
González also describes a player who drives those around him to improve. “Leo is someone who brings a certain mentality every day; he demands 100% from his teammates, and from each of us, in every area.” In his view, Messi remains a role model who is happy and enjoying himself, and whose arrival has changed the club.
Messi and Inter Miami are due to face DC United on Saturday night at Nu Stadium, in the team’s first match after returning from the international break.
