Borussia Dortmund let a two-goal advantage slip and drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen in front of their home crowd. After going 2-0 ahead, Dortmund conceded twice in the closing moments, with the second goal scored by former player Niclas Füllkrug. Goalkeeper Karl Hein, named man of the match, kept the home side at bay for much of the game. He launched a long ball that sent Füllkrug through on Kobel, but the keeper prevented a 0-1 scoreline by blocking his close-range effort.
Dortmund controlled the game from the opening whistle against a deep-lying opponent, but lacked the final pass to create chances before the break. Hein stood out with a save from Maximilian Beier. After half-time, Niko Kovac’s players moved the ball faster and created repeated danger: Hein again stopped a Nico Schlotterbeck shot and turned away a Nathan Nwaneri volley. A spectacular Nwaneri goal was also ruled out after a prior foul by Waldemar Anton on Füllkrug.
Dortmund eventually opened the scoring, then Schlotterbeck added a second with a header from a Joey Veerman corner. The team then dropped back to protect its 2-0 lead. Werder, who had spent much of the match defending, pulled one back in the 88th minute through a Reis shot, before Füllkrug headed in Marco Grüll’s free kick in added time. Füllkrug played for Dortmund in the 2023-24 season.
The draw ends Dortmund’s perfect start across the first four Bundesliga matchdays and puts its place at the top at risk.
