Chelsea is considering a January move for Jules Koundé, whose future at Barcelona is uncertain. Journalist Matteo Moretto says the London club is monitoring the defender’s situation and assessing the financial terms of a potential deal. He suggests that a fee above €50 million could be required for Koundé.

Moretto has also raised continuing doubts about the France international’s long-term future. “Regarding Koundé’s future, there were already doubts at the beginning of the summer and there are still doubts. His future is a little up in the air,” he said on La Pizarra. He says Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation: “Chelsea asked about him and almost signed him before he went to Barça.” As January approaches, Chelsea is sounding out the situation and looking at the figures involved in a possible deal, he added.

Barcelona’s position could be shaped by its own transfer-market plans. Moretto said it remains to be seen whether the club will look to raise funds to sign a top striker. Any potential departure would also depend on the club’s valuation, interest from other teams and the player’s wishes.

Chelsea is not the only club linked with the defender: Bayern Munich has also been associated with a possible move. Koundé remains a Barcelona player, and no transfer is presented as agreed. Chelsea had previously come close to signing him before his move to Barcelona. After his 2022 move from Sevilla, Koundé established himself as a key defensive figure at Barcelona; reports say he has featured less prominently this season than in earlier campaigns.
