“Urgent measures” against Ronaldo after the camp crisis: the Portuguese Football Federation announced on Saturday the temporary suspension of Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of the national team, along with disciplinary measures against him after he left the team camp. The matter was declared urgent.
The Federation said its non-professional section of the Disciplinary Council had opened proceedings on Friday. They are intended to determine whether the events reported on October 7 constituted disciplinary offences. The Federation also said the decision provides for a non-automatic precautionary suspension of the player, following an earlier automatic precautionary suspension that applied until the proceedings began.
On Saturday, the Federation referred the case to its disciplinary investigation committee. It said the proceedings would remain confidential until the investigation was complete.
The Federation has announced no final sanction. The current suspension remains a precautionary measure while the case is examined; the proceedings must still establish whether the reported events amount to a disciplinary offence.
