A mistake by Manuel Neuer led to a goal described as the fastest in Bundesliga history. Just after kick-off, Luis Díaz played the ball back to the goalkeeper, who let it get away from him. Neuer then tried to pass, but Fellhauer intercepted the ball, found himself alone in front of an empty net and scored.
The goal surpassed a mark that, according to the reported statistics, had stood for 63 years. The previous record was associated with Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi, whose goal came after 9 seconds.
There was another twist involving Neuer. On 22 August 2015, Volland scored against him for Hoffenheim against Bayern. Bellarabi had scored for Bayer Leverkusen against Dortmund on 23 August 2014.
The match came as Bayern pursued the top spot in the German league. Borussia Dortmund had just drawn 2-2 with Werder Bremen, taking its total to 13 points, three more than Bayern. The Bavarian side was nevertheless ahead of Dortmund on goal difference, before facing Augsburg.
