Barcelona keep going. Despite a lengthy break and several changes to the starting line-up, the club returned to winning ways, extending its run in La Liga and at the Camp Nou. It was an eighth consecutive league victory and a 23rd straight win at its home ground.
Hansi Flick had to manage without the injured Raphinha and left Cubarsí, Pedri and Fermín out of the starting side. The rotation did not change the outcome Barcelona wanted: another win. In their most recent victory over Getafe, the team had also overcome a traditionally awkward opponent, who failed to trouble the leaders.
That meeting with Getafe showcased Barcelona’s efficiency: Gabriel Jesus made it 2-0 on the half-hour, before Koundé completed the rout after the break. Lamine then set up Koundé for the 3-0 with a deft pass. Gordon also delivered a dangerous cross that Dani Olmo nearly reached, forcing David Soria into a save.
Flick brought on Pedri and Fermín with half an hour remaining, and Barcelona rediscovered its spark. Andrés García, meanwhile, left the pitch with discomfort. Koundé had a chance to add a third before the break but could not control the ball when one-on-one with Soria.
The winning run leaves Barcelona well placed ahead of the Clásico, which could widen the gap with Real Madrid. Galatasaray and Betis, however, are on the schedule before that fixture.
