“The result is zero points for Martín and three fewer for Bezzecchi,” Marc Márquez said, expressing satisfaction with his overall outcome after the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix race at Mandalika. He finished sixth, but considers the result favourable in relation to his rivals. “That’s the overall result, so I’m super happy,” he summed up. He said he would have accepted the same scenario on Thursday: “If you’d told me on Thursday: zero for Martín and three fewer for Bezzecchi, I would have signed it on any piece of paper.”
Losing the championship lead from one day to the next did not seem dramatic to him. Márquez also acknowledged Aprilia’s dominance on Sunday. He knew the brand’s bikes would be fast, but said he had kept faith in his own approach. During the race, he managed the risks and believes he had reached his limit. Holding off Ogura and Acosta was difficult, he explained, and no opportunity to benefit from a mistake arose.
The rider recalled that with 12 laps remaining and three competitors behind him, he had considered letting one of them through so he could finish the race. He also praised Máximo: after an already notable season last year, he continued to progress and, in Márquez’s view, delivered a season “like a champion”. He sees him as a forceful rider who could make his mark for several years.
