Paris Saint-Germain faces the threat of sanctions after an incident at the Parc des Princes. On Saturday, during the match against Le Mans, security staff removed a banner, prompting controversy and a temporary protest as supporters left the stands.
The Collectif Ultras Paris had displayed the message in the Auteuil stand: “Your militias repress, our youth resists.” The banner referred to student demonstrations and allegations of police violence. After security staff took it down, supporters chanted “Freedom for the ultras” as they left the stand, returning at the end of the first half.
A sanction against the club is not a foregone conclusion. The relevant disciplinary authorities can investigate, assess the banner’s content and consider the steps PSG took to manage the situation. Possible sanctions are at the centre of the controversy, but no punishment is inevitable.
