Ross Smith vowed that “karma” would catch up with Mensur Suljovic after their Swiss Darts Trophy clash, which the Austrian won. The best-of-11-legs match was level at 5-5 on Sunday afternoon. Smith had two match darts at double 18 when Suljovic gestured for the crowd to increase its boos. Smith missed, giving his opponent a chance to finish the match. Suljovic then hit double 10 with his final dart to secure victory.
After the defeat, Smith shared his thoughts on X. “I don’t blame Mensur for me losing that game,” he wrote, before adding: “I missed two match darts. Simple as that.” He also said he could not know what Suljovic was doing behind him while he was throwing, other than from the crowd’s reaction. He then warned: “If he wants to be an absolute helmet, that’s on him — karma will come around.”
Suljovic has previously been involved in controversy. Last December, he denied deliberately trying to provoke Joe Cullen during a World Championship match. “I never, ever do this as a provocation,” he told Cullen, adding that he did it only for his game and did not want to be a villain. He also apologised to Joe.
