Morante scores spectacular goal on his Liga debut

Morante scored a spectacular stoppage-time goal in his first Liga match, played the previous day at La Cartuja. He celebrated by mimicking a bullfighter, like his father. The young player had already made his first official appearance for the senior team in January, against PAOK in the Europa League.

The Liga debut came after he had joined the group’s regular training routine under Pellegrini. Morante had also already played in the Europa League before finding the net on his first appearance in the league.

Pellegrini is closely guiding the stages of his development. “We have been working with Morante since last season. He has already played in the Copa del Rey. He trains with the team and plays with the reserve side. He still has a lot to learn, but being around Isco and the others will help him. His goal was no accident: he strikes the ball very well,” the coach said.

That first Liga goal added particular significance to an already memorable evening for Morante, whose senior-team appearances had previously taken him into the Europa League and the Copa del Rey.
