Aguirre begins his Valencia spell with a draw at El Sardinero

Aguirre began his time in charge of Valencia with a draw against Racing at El Sardinero. Valencia came away with only a point, leaving the new coach’s impact only partly felt. His side had a chance to take all three points, but could also have suffered defeat.

Dani Raba, making his first start after playing only eight minutes this season, opened the scoring two minutes into the match. The move began with a Racing throw-in, which Valencia immediately won back. The goal did not, however, give Valencia control of the game. Racing responded with quick passing and forward balls aimed at breaking through the opposition lines. Apart from the goal, Gayà threatened with a header and Javi Guerra with a volley.

After the break, Aguirre brought on Danjuma for Diakhaby in an attempt to add more attacking presence. Iván Martín then turned the score around with a shot from just outside the area, placed close to the post. Valencia levelled through Otorbi, who had come on shortly beforehand, and continued to press. Otorbi came close to scoring again, but Belocian spared Racing. In the closing moments, Hugo Duro missed a clear opportunity, and Valencia let the chance of a win slip away.
