German referee Sven Jablonski will take charge of Wednesday’s clash between Manchester City and PSG in the second round of the Champions League. UEFA announced his appointment on Monday. The assignment comes ahead of a meeting between two teams who both won their opening match: Manchester City beat Porto 2-0 away, while the Parisian club began its campaign with a 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava. The match is scheduled for 21:00 on Wednesday.
Jablonski has already refereed a match involving a French club this season. He was in charge of the first leg of the Champions League qualifying play-off between Fenerbahçe and OL, which finished 1-1. On the opening matchday of the group stage, a German referee also officiated the match between FC Barcelona and Feyenoord, won 5-1 by FC Barcelona.
Last season, in his first Champions League campaign, Jablonski refereed four group-stage matches. The last of those saw Bodø/Glimt beat Manchester City 3-1 on January 20. That result was a bad memory for the Skyblues as the German referee prepares to take charge of their match on Wednesday.
