Betis have won only one of their four home matches against Portuguese teams. Wednesday’s visit by Oporto to La Cartuja gives the club a chance to improve that European record. The four matches have brought one win, one draw and two defeats, as the team prepares for the second matchday of the Champions League.

The only home win cited came against Vitória de Guimarães: Betis won 1-0 in the Europa League group stage. The sides also drew 2-2 in the Conference League round of 16. Against Braga, Betis drew 1-1 in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The most recent European meeting in Seville ended with Betis eliminated by Sporting de Braga in the 2025/26 Europa League quarter-finals. After a 1-1 first-leg draw, Betis lost 4-2 at La Cartuja in the return, despite leading 2-0 before the half-hour mark. Pellegrini’s side could not preserve that advantage.

Betis’ European history against Portuguese clubs dates back to the 1982/83 season, when Benfica eliminated them in the first round of the UEFA Cup. Since then, the club have contested three more knockout ties against Portuguese teams: two against Vitória de Guimarães and one against Sporting de Braga.

Betis’ overall home record stands at one win, one draw and two defeats; away from home, they have two wins, one draw and one loss. Oporto’s visit is therefore a chance to improve a record that has been less favourable on their own ground.
