Netflix has acquired the rights to the 2030 World Cup, with the platform set to stream all 104 matches live. The tournament will mark the competition’s centenary and will be hosted in part by Spain, alongside Morocco and Portugal. The agreement strengthens the platform’s push into live sport.

One match per matchday will be available free of charge. An agreement with a free-to-air broadcaster will also make the Spanish national team’s matches, the semi-finals and the final available. The coverage will include full production before, during and after each match, as well as daily highlights. The agreement describes the approach as « un planteamiento genuinamente español ».

Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, highlighted the tournament’s power to bring people together: « few events unite people as much as a World Cup ». She also recalled the passion and stories from previous editions that become part of a country’s culture and endure in its memory.

FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström also welcomed the partnership. « This will be a very special edition », he said, pointing to the shared aim of bringing football closer to fans and sharing the excitement of the competition with as many people as possible.

For the 2027 and 2031 editions of the Women’s World Cup in the United States and Canada, Netflix also holds the rights, as part of its partnership with football’s global governing body.
