Koke’s mother has died, and a minute’s silence will be held before Atlético’s match against Manchester United. The club announced that the mother of its captain and Borja Resurrección, an assistant coach with the Juvenil team, died on Tuesday, 13 October.

Atlético said the tribute would take place before kick-off. “Tonight, before the start of the match against Manchester United, a minute’s silence will be held in memory of doña Ana Merodio Borja, mother of our captain, Koke, and of Borja Resurrección, assistant coach of Juvenil A, who died this morning in Madrid. We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace,” the club wrote.

Doña Ana, alongside Eugenio, Koke and Borja’s father, helped foster their commitment to Atlético. She made many sacrifices so that Koke could attend training every day and play his matches. The minute’s silence will honour a mother and the part she played in supporting her sons.
